GROL Garden - Girne is located in Northern Cyprus, (T.R.N.C.)

 

GROL (Green Rays Of Light) is a sponsored nonprofit garden based on 

Permaculture Principles which is located in Kyrenia (aka Girne). We are a Vegetarian Community working towards sustainability by growing some of our own food in an integrated system.

 

We organically grow a wide variety of plants. We have citrus and olive trees throughout the property. We have an aquponics system, composting toilet, cob pizza oven, outdoor shower, cob/wood sauna, and are always trying to improve our property.

 

We have chickens, ducks, dogs, & cats. Our birds increase diversity, provide organic fertilizer, and produce eggs for eating.

 

Here is the little History of GROL Garden:

It started in September 2012 as a few bean plants, cucumbers, and sunflowers. In October & November of 2012, RayChel, who founded GROL, began studying Permaculture Design and returned to Cyprus in January 2013 with the goal of growing organic food using the Principles of Permaculture. With her return, GROL Garden started a Volunteer Work Exchange and thanks to the steady rotation of Individuals coming to Cyprus, GROL Garden is run almost exclusively off of the contribuations of International Volunteers participating in this Work Exchange.

The current Project Managers are Jessie and Ihsan. Ray is involved in other Projects and spends much of her time away from Cyprus.

GROL Garden is expanding and constantly evolving, so the duties change on a daily/weekly basis which range from animal care, seed germination, planting, pruning, harvesting, pest control, watering, weeding, soil preparation, compost tumbling/mixing. Also, maintaining the house & food prep is a big part too!

Yoga a couple times a week, led by a Volunteer or by Our Yoga Instructor Demet.

We have many goals to make GROL Garden even better.
