Aquaponics, Solar Energy, & Garden

Location: LAS VEGAS

I am in the process of starting an eco-project in Las Vegas which will combine Aquaponics with Alternative Energy to create a system which will showcase how food and energy can be produced locally.

The goal is to be self-sufficient in producing energy and hopefully be able to sell power, fish, and vegetables in Las Vegas.

Though conscious design I hope this system can be incorporated as an urban solution to aid the World's growing food, water, and energy crisis'. To implement this project, the start up costs for materials is high. In addition to financial costs, it is going to take a lot of time and hard work to make this project a reality, this is where collaborations & volunteers will be key!

This Project is starting from Nothing. I hope to find the land, get permits, and start the building project over the following months.

FOR VOLUNTEERS

The initial work will include building this system, so anyone with building experience or those familair with aquaponics is ideal. Please click through the slideshow and take a look at the pictures and diagrams for examples of the an idea of the structure that will be built.

Down the line, we'll need people for general maintenance, but more importantly, people with green thumbs to keep the plants and fish alive and healthy.

EXCHANGE PROGAM FOR NON-LOCAL VOLUNTEERS

For People wishing to Volunteer who do not live in Las Vegas, I offer a work-exchange program. For more details read below:

In Exchange of 25 hours of work per week, volunteers get hands-on experience, accommodation, & food.

Volunteers can build up their own schedule- WITHIN REASON.

Each week we plan out what chores will need to be done and when for the following week.

Work-Exchange Volunteers have an input on which days the want off and how they'd like to manage their 25 hours.

However, there may be times that they are needed for certain hours.

Accommodation:

I own a home which I will use to host volunteers.

Two rooms are being configured to sleep 3 people comfortably (both rooms have (or will soon have) 1 queen bed & one set of bunk beds- all the matresses and pillows are new, high-quality- all of which are very comfortable).

One room is generally allocated for single female Volunteers and the other room for male Volunteers.

A third outside building is being fitted to house couples, with a queen bed mounted on a custom handmade storage bedframe.

If there are 3 or less volunteers at a time, you will be able to have your own room.

In exchange for volunteer work, I provide:

-Housing (comfortable beds, new pillows, organic cotton bed sheets, comforters & extra blankets, clothes rack/closet, dresser drawers)

-Food (aspiring for own-grown, but also a budget for food)

-Occasional excursions

Cooking at the house is exclusively Vegetarian/Vegan. Pescetarian-diet option once the Aquaponics System can provide us with tilapia & perch.
